AI agents are changing what happens after AI finds your business. AI visibility gets your company into the conversation, while agentic visibility is about whether an agent can understand what you offer, evaluate your fit, compare you with other options, and take the next step toward doing business with you.

In this episode, I break down what that means for B2B companies and marketing teams as AI agents research providers, evaluate expertise, gather information, compare options, and take action. Being found or recommended by AI is still important, but that alone does not mean an agent has enough information to evaluate your company or know what to do next.

Your website and content are a big part of that. I walk through what an agent may need to understand about your business, why a website that works for people may still create problems for agents, and why getting more of your real expertise online matters beyond simply getting mentioned in an AI answer.

Key Takeaways

  • AI visibility gets your business found; agentic visibility is about what an agent can do after it finds you.
  • AI agents need clear information about what you offer, who you help, how you work, and what should happen next.
  • In B2B, the next action might be comparing providers, preparing a shortlist, requesting a proposal, or booking a meeting.
  • A website that works for people may still be difficult for an AI agent to understand, evaluate, or navigate.
  • Your expertise has to make it online before an AI agent can use it to evaluate your business.

What Is Agentic Visibility?

Agentic visibility is about what happens after AI finds your business. Can an agent understand what you offer, evaluate whether you fit its assignment, compare you with other options, and move toward the appropriate next action?

AI visibility gets your business into the conversation. But when someone sends an AI agent to research companies and compare options, being visible is only the starting point. The agent still needs to figure out what you provide, whether you’re a good fit, and how to take the next step with your company.

I’ve been spending a lot of time observing, testing, and measuring how AI systems and agents interact with businesses online. I’ve built multiple smaller products to learn how machines interact with other machines, and that work has expanded into a larger system we’re preparing to test more broadly.

I’m not ready to fully break that system down yet. But working directly on this has changed how I think about AI visibility. The question is no longer only whether an AI platform can mention your company in an answer. It’s what happens next.

How Is Agentic Visibility Different From AI Visibility?

AI visibility asks whether AI can find your business, understand what it does, connect it to a relevant question, and potentially cite or recommend it. Agentic visibility asks whether an agent can use that understanding to evaluate your company and move toward the next action.

AI visibility is still the foundation. If your business never enters the conversation, an agent has no opportunity to consider it. Agentic visibility takes that foundation further: can the agent determine whether your business fits the assignment and understand how it compares with other options?

The next action depends on the business. It might be buying a product. For a B2B company, it could mean gathering information, comparing providers, identifying the correct contact, requesting a proposal, preparing a shortlist, or reaching the point where a meeting can be booked.

AI visibility gets the business considered. Agentic visibility helps determine whether the agent can evaluate the business and successfully move toward the appropriate next action.

What Can AI Agents Do After They Find Your Business?

AI agents can research a problem, compare companies, gather information, prepare recommendations, and, when properly authorized and capable, take the next action. That does not mean every agent can reliably complete every assignment.

The larger shift is from answering a question to working toward an objective. Research this problem. Compare these companies. Find the best option. Collect the necessary information. Prepare a recommendation. Those are assignments that require more than producing a single answer.

Some agents have access to computers, browsers, connected applications, identities, and permissions. Businesses also have ways to expose structured capabilities, so an agent does not always have to rely entirely on the same page-clicking experience a person uses.

The specific products will continue to change. The direction is what matters. Some agents can complete a particular assignment today and some can’t. Businesses should pay attention to what agents need from them as those capabilities improve.

How Do AI Agents Compare and Evaluate Businesses?

An agent needs clear information about what each company provides, whom it helps, how its approach differs, what supports its claims, what working together involves, and what should happen next. That information helps it evaluate whether a provider fits the assignment.

Let’s say a marketing executive gives an AI agent this assignment: find three companies that could help us improve our AI visibility. Determine which ones work with businesses like ours, compare their approaches, identify useful proof, and recommend who we should contact.

The agent now has to understand the actual offer. Is it software, consulting, managed services, content production, or some combination? Who is it designed for? What makes the approach different? Are there examples, evidence, or useful explanations that support the company’s claims?

It also needs information about the process, pricing and capabilities where available, and the right next step. If it cannot confidently understand one company, it may recommend another whose information is clearer, more complete, and easier to use.

What Does “Doing Business” Mean for AI Agents in B2B?

Doing business does not necessarily mean an agent signs a contract or completes a purchase. In B2B, it can mean researching providers, comparing options, preparing a shortlist, identifying the right contact, requesting a proposal, or reaching the point where a meeting can be booked.

In the marketing executive example, the agent may not be authorized to hire a company or sign an agreement. But it could still complete much of the research, evaluate the available options, and identify the right next step for the executive.

That’s already a big part of doing business. The relevant question is whether the agent can move the assignment forward using the information your company makes available, within its capabilities and the permissions it has been given.

Can AI Agents Understand and Use Your Website?

An agent needs clear business information, accessible expertise, useful evidence, and a clear path forward. A website that a person can navigate may still leave an agent unable to distinguish your services, evaluate your fit, or identify the correct next step without assumptions.

Imagine an agent has never heard of your company and has one assignment: determine whether this company is the right fit and explain exactly what should happen next. How far could it get?

Could it explain what your business does and who your services are designed for? If you offer several services, could it distinguish between them? Could it find evidence that supports your claims and information about your approach, process, pricing, capabilities, and locations?

A human might click through several pages, interpret vague marketing language, open a PDF, watch a video, and eventually call someone when an answer is still unclear. An agent comparing several companies may simply move to the next option.

That’s why a website being usable for a person is not necessarily the same as the business being usable by an agent. The information and the path forward both need to be clear.

Why Does Your Content Matter to AI Agents?

An agent cannot properly evaluate expertise that never makes it online. Your content gives it something useful to work with: how you approach problems, who you’re suited to help, what supports your claims, and how your business compares with another provider.

If your website only contains a few generic service descriptions, it may not explain your actual approach. And if you never explain who you’re best suited to help, an agent has less information to judge whether your company fits the assignment.

That’s one reason a recurring video podcast can be useful. Each episode gives you a place to focus on one core idea and answer the related questions needed to explain it clearly. One episode might cover your approach to a problem. Another might cover pricing, comparisons, common mistakes, or what changes the final recommendation.

That source material can then be rewritten, organized, and structured for both humans and machines. The podcast captures the knowledge. The connected content and intelligence system helps people and AI understand your business. Agentic visibility asks whether an agent can then use that understanding to evaluate the company and move toward the next action.

That’s also part of what we’re testing through the larger system we’re building. The goal is to help a business see where an agent succeeds, where it struggles, and what may be preventing it from properly understanding and interacting with the business. I’ll share more once it’s ready for people to use.

How Can You Test Your Business for Agentic Visibility?

Start by reviewing your website, social channels, and other published content from an agent’s perspective. Give it one assignment: determine whether this business is the right fit and explain what should happen next.

Could it accurately explain what you do, who you help, why you’re relevant, and what supports that conclusion? Could it reach the correct next step without getting lost or making assumptions?

Being found and recommended by AI still matters. But the next competitive advantage may belong to businesses that AI systems and agents can find, understand, evaluate, trust, and ultimately transact with.

If this episode was useful, send it to a business owner or someone on your marketing team who’s asking for more content without being able to explain what that content should accomplish or how it can be made available to AI platforms and agents.
