On his final tour in Afghanistan, he lost his left leg to a roadside bomb while on patrol. After becoming an amputee, and the passing of his twin brother Joe, who took his own life while they were serving on active duty in 2010, Earl is now a motivational speaker, speaking on healthy ways to battle adversity, the importance of being part of something bigger than yourself, and constantly challenging yourself by getting out of your comfort zone.
