Episode 136: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Bobby Arvon & Lorenzo Medico. Early in Bobby’s music career he was told by an agent that he didn’t have a recording voice.
As a singer/songwriter, he later went on to become a Billboard Hot 100 recording artist, leading to many TV appearances, notably Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, The Merv Griffin Show and more. You may also recognize Bobby’s voice from the lead on the theme song of one of the most popular American television sitcoms, “Happy Days.”
Wanting to get back to his Scranton Pennsylvania roots, Bobby met Lorenzo through a mutual friend. As a performer, entrepreneur, and owner of ARTIC Entertainment, Lorenzo found a way to connect the dots between Bobby and fellow Scranton native, Marko Marcinko, to put together a live, one night only show, titled “Bobby Arvon with Marko Marcinko & the SJF Big Band featuring Lorenzo Medico.”
The show will be held on December 4th at the Kirby Center for the Creative Arts at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston PA.
This is Lorenzo’s first live production with his company, ARTIC Entertainment. Short for Art in community, his company is focused on promoting, producing and cultivating the film, live music, and theater arts industry in Northeast Pennsylvania.

Episode 134: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Paul Williams, Co-Owner of Perfect Storm Renovations, Kitchen & Bath.
Paul is a US Air Force Veteran with grit. After returning home from the military, he had a hard time finding work. He was so determined to make it that he used to ride his bike over 25 miles to work everyday.
After finding success as a kitchen remodel salesperson at a national big box store, Paul and his lifelong friend, Jerome Sulkoski, thought if they partnered together to start their own renovation company, that they would be the “Perfect Storm.”
When they first started their business in 2019, they would do renovations nearly for free just so they could build a portfolio of testimonials and before and after photos. Their first year in business they did $1 million in sales. Now, their multi-million dollar business is Northeast Pennsylvania’s leading kitchen and bath remodeling company.

Episode 133: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Professional Golfer, Brandon Matthews. When he was 10 years old, he began to practice writing his signature because he believed one day he would become a professional athlete.
Three years ago, he was playing professionally, but was physically in pain almost everyday, in a bad place mentally, and golf wasn’t fun for the first time in his entire life. In his own words, his “horrible” 2019 was one of the greatest moments of his career.
Hitting rock bottom tested his character and prepared him for what was about to happen next.
In June of this year, Brandon secured his first PGA TOUR card.

Episode 131: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Stephanie Decker, Associate Vice President of Social and Economic Impact at Lackawanna College.
Stephanie took over cooking duties for her family when she was just 10 years old after her mother became mentally ill and as her father was suffering from alcoholism.
She went on to study at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) to become a Chef, worked for 20+ years in the restaurant industry, 10 of which she owned her own restaurant.
In 2010, her life and purpose intersected when she met a few executives from Lackawanna College that tasked her with starting the College’s School of Hospitality program. She built it from scratch with borrowed kitchens, Bunsen burners, and pots and pans out of the trunk of her car. The program now boasts 4 degrees and an 85 seat restaurant and bar at their main campus in Scranton, PA.
Now, as the College’s AVP of Social and Economic Impact, she uses her scrappy, make-it-happen mindset to help people live better lives through education, entrepreneurship, and community connection.
We also discuss a book that she is co-authoring along with Lackawanna College President Dr. Jill Murray, and Provost Dr. Erica Barone Pricci. The book, which hasn’t been published yet, focuses on the strategies these 3 leaders implemented over the last 10+ years to create a culture of innovation at the College, one of which landed the College on Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.

Episode 130: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Fred Aebli aka Mr. Fred, creator of GetMeCoding.com.
As a Star Wars ‘1977’ kid, he was propelled into thinking “how do I get to space?” After graduating from Penn State, he realized the only way to get there was via the Astronaut Corps, so he pursued a military commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marines, traveled the globe pre-911, and was eventually promoted to Major.
When he returned home from active duty, he worked as a network engineer on early stage internet development for Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), as a software developer for Oracle, and later became an IST professor at Penn State.
After seeing a growing decline in kids exploring coding and “tinkering” with tech, along with the growing demand for IT professionals, he came up with the idea of GetMeCoding.com to teach kids coding and show them how fantasy/sci-fi can be doorways to new opportunities.

Episode 127: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with former Wall Street Managing Director, Manny Santayana.
“Do the right thing and fear no man!” That is the mantra Manny lives by.
Despite almost getting fired from his first sales job at IBM, Manny went on to become a top salesperson at IBM and then for a firm on Wall Street. In 2002, he led an algorithmic electronic trading team at Credit Suisse, where he increased the sales from $2.5 million to $1 billion+ across 47 countries. They ranked #1 in the world and executed 9% of the total US trading volume.
Later in his career, he became Head of Sales at NASDAQ, and is responsible for rebuilding the entire NASDAQ sales force after their global trading clients were adversely affected by the Facebook IPO technical trading disaster in 2012. Throughout his life and career, Manny has seen it all, experiencing extreme highs and lows, and what he calls the 4 C’s of Sociology: Cooperation, Competition, Conflict, and Corruption. Manny explains how he navigated these phases and the greatest lessons that Wall Street taught him about life.

Episode 126: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Max Peters, Attorney, Entrepreneur, and Owner of Maximilian Ultra Premium Cigars. Max got a taste of entrepreneurship and blue collar work at age 12 when he started working at a junkyard, buying and selling scrap metal, cars, and trucks. He fell in love with the idea of earning a dollar by building something and selling it, instead of punching a clock for a paycheck.
His many business ventures, including his boutique cigar company based in the Dominican Republic, have given him the opportunity to travel the world and gain perspective by seeing how other cultures live and place value on success, money, and time.

Episode 125: #OnTheStacks in the blu door studio with Mike Thorwart, co-owner of Dead Sled Coffee. He’s addicted to the hustle of business. Five years ago, Mike designed a website for free to help his two friends that were starting a coffee company. He’s now co-owner and runs the company full time.
To celebrate the ownership’s love of horror films and rock ‘n’ roll, they sought out to partner with various artists to formulate their own proprietary blend of coffee and participate in designing the artwork on the packaging. They landed several officially licensed deals with classic horror films such as, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Vampira, Beetlejuice, and It. On the Rock ‘n’ Roll side of things, they’ve partnered with KISS, Skid Row, Rob Zombie, and Dee Snider from Twisted Sister, to name a few.
